Oh, My Papa ...

... is set for a treat today. I have a couple of slabs of ribs curing in the refrigerator right now, soaking up a fresh-mixed dry rub of brown sugar, kosher salt, black and cayenne pepper, garlic and onion powder, curry and rubbed thyme. It smells so great that I expect Emeril Lagasse to knock at the door any minute now to ask about the recipe.

My brother has orders to bring some Jack Daniels over after church, just in time to help me get the grill fired up. I figure that I'll mix the whiskey with a touch of vinegar, a little brown sugar or honey, and a clove or two of garlic — and then I'll let the ribs cook on a cool part of the grill for a couple of hours.

No, you can't have any. =) But I'll let you know how they turn out.

To totally change the subject, I just noticed that the local alt-rock station is playing what sounds for all the world like a Cat Power cover of "Roam" by the B-52s. The DJ just broke in and said the song was actually by the Cindy Wilson Band — the same Cindy Wilson who sang on the original track — but she's reworked the song something fierce. It sounds less like a party out of bounds than like the hangover that hits you like a wet sandbag the next morning.
